Midwestern Melodies & DC is another exclusive music themed tour from Travelling Time. Beginning in Chicago on Lake Michigan in Illinois. Known to be a major center for music in the Midwestern United States, Chicago is credited with the development of distinctive forms of blues (greatly responsible for the future creation of rock and roll), and house music. The “Great Migration” of poor black workers from the South into the industrial cities brought traditional jazz and blues music to the city, resulting in Chicago blues and “Chicago-style” Dixieland jazz. Chicago is also well known for its soul music.
Next stop Detroit – Motor City is the home of Tamla Motown – Hitsville USA. Other major genres represented in Detroit music include Classical, Blues, Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Rock and roll, Pop, Punk, Soul, Electronica and Hip-hop.
Continuing our Midwestern Musical Journey we move on to Cleveland Ohio where both The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame are located. Then finally, we make our way to the Nation’s Capital – Washington DC. During our time here we will visit the famous landmarks and of course find out about the Washington Music Scene which has been home to many prominent musicians and is particularly known for the musical genres of Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, bluegrass, and a local funk genre called go-go.
